Introducing OVO's Data Dashboard
This report provides an overview of the biggest energy technology trends and behaviour changes driving the energy transition. It has been created by crunching key information on energy usage, engagement with flexibility schemes, and green technology such as heat pumps, solar and EVs. OVO’s team of data analysts have crunched the numbers to summarise the state of the nation and show where policy intervention, customer support and greater awareness can make a real difference to households up and down the country today.
As a green energy company, we take our commitment to reach net zero seriously. We believe the only way to get there is by helping households make the switch to electric and green technology.
That’s why we’re on a mission to decarbonise all our customer homes by 2035. Supported by our OVO data dashboard to track our progress, better understand UK household energy use, and identify the gaps.
Home heating alone accounts for around 17% of the UK’s total emissions. Imagine if we could completely reduce this to zero - and shave thousands off energy bills in the process.
But we have a problem. We have some of the oldest and leakiest homes in Europe. Our housing stock loses heat 3 times faster than homes in Norway or Germany. We simply can’t decarbonise our homes if we don’t also make them more energy efficient. Taken together, this will help households use less energy, save money on bills, and cut our carbon.
To do this, we need to help our customers transition away from fossil fuels to low carbon technology like heat pumps, EVs and solar panels. We need to shift our energy use to greener and cheaper times of the day. And we need to insulate our homes to save on energy and money.
We’re already making good progress. Our Energy Experts go into homes to offer customers tailored energy efficiency advice. Our Heat Pump Plus proposition makes heat pumps cheaper than a gas boiler to install and run. Our Charge Anytime rate has saved £3 million for electric car drivers compared to petrol and diesel drivers. Our Power Move scheme encouraging customers to use energy off peak - when it’s cleaner and cheaper - has saved over £576,000 for customers so far.
To help households we need to incentivise take up of green technology like heat pumps and solar panels. We need to urgently insulate the most energy-inefficient housing. We need to decarbonise and upgrade our energy system so we can power our homes with renewable electricity. And we need to boost the green workforce to make all of this happen.
It’s clear we still have a long way to go. But we will get there. And we hope our OVO data dashboard encourages you to make the switch to a greener and cleaner home.
